It has arrived!! Winter is officially here! The mornings and nights are darker, the days are colder, and most of us spend the next six months cooped up inside. And while sitting around a cosy fire drinking cups of tea is lovely, we tend to neglect those activities that make us feel good and look after our wellbeing. Chances are, you might just find yourself start to feel a little bit flat.

So we encourage you to get outside each Sunday and move your body! Christchurch has some epic walking tracks that can suit all abilities!

Here are some of our all time favourites:

1.     Godley Head Track

A real crowd favourite (and for good reason), this track will blow your mind with its epic scenery. Starting off at Taylors Mistake Beach, you can do the complete loop or turn around at any stage. Then you can swing past Sumner for a coffee on the way back. And a cup of Joe tastes wayyyy better when you have earned it!

2.     Valley Road Stairs

Not for the faint hearted, these stairs are brutal!! Perfect for getting the lungs and legs burning. You wont even feel the cold after the first set. Tucked in the hills of Cashmere, aim to complete these six times by running up and walking back down.

3.     Barnett Park Caves

It’s not everyday that you get to mission up to the top of a cave! This walk takes about 30 minutes to the top, and the photo once you reach the cave is unreal! Make sure to wear sturdy shoes because the track can be muddy at times.

4.     Onawe Peninsula

This one is a little bit further afield, but perfect for that Sunday road trip with the pals. Head towards Akaroa and you will find it! The walk itself is an hour long, but you can spend some serious time exploring. Make sure you check the tides before you head off, you may find yourself scaling cliffs if it is high tide!

5.     Washpen Falls

This walk is so hot right now, but for all the right reasons. An hour from Christchurch, the walk starts off winding through a forest and ends up with views across the Canterbury Plains. You’ll be able to get that Notebook worthy photo of you paddling on the lake at the end. Make sure you take $10 cash and pay at the Woolshed before you start – this money goes towards maintaining the track.

So grab your mother, brother, lover or flatmate, throw on a jacket and get outside amongst the sunshine!! We guarantee you will feel way better for it.
